New Covenant: Radically New

Here’s a very interesting article on the radical newness of the New Covenant:  John Dunn – Radically New

Mono-covenantalism doesn’t square well with Scripture’s two-covenant (Old/New) orientation.

  1. The New Covenant is nothing new. It is the Jews diaspora state and their lack of a culture beyond that – but now frivilously found in Israel – that is the root of this revisionism. If we all look to Israel and the Jews we lose ourselves. If only the Jews may have a cultural identity then that gentile indeed lives in Israel.

  2. St. Paul (former Zionist) called himself a “minister of a new covenant, not of the letter (Mosaic-Levitical Law) but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit (New Covenant) gives life (2Cor.3:6).

Writer to the Hebrews stated that Jesus Christ (revisor of the covenant scheme) “is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant (Heb.9:15).”

St. Paul (former Zionist) refers to Christ as converting the Old Covenant Passover into a New Covenant Fulfillment: “In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me (1Co 11:25).”

The ‘True Exodus’ is in the person and work of Jesus Christ! This, all ‘true believers’ are to hold fast to and proclaim faithfully.
