a new commandment

There’s a very interesting conversation going on over there at De Regnis Duobus! Jason Stellman is working out the crucial distinction between Mosaic Law and the Law of Christ. Real good stuff…much like what Lee Irons has hammered out in both print and audio files: The Upper Register: Papers and mp3’s by Lee Irons.

Here’s a taste of Stellman on the “new commandment” of I John 2:7-8:

“What we have here is not “eternal moral law,” nor is it “the third use of the law.” Both of these formulations tend to flatten salvation-history by lifting principles from one redemptive epoch and placing them in another, as though the Bible were a collection of “timeless truths” that fell from the sky, leather-bound and thumb-indexed for easy use.”
