We first received Christ Jesus the Lord through faith in the Gospel, so we continue walking in Him in reliance upon the Gospel (Col 2:6)!Thus, if with Christ we have died, by faith in the Gospel, to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if we were still alive in the world, do we submit to regulations of the Old Order—”Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch”—which things wear-out with using, though they have an appearance of wisdom…but are of no value whatsoever in stopping the indulgence of the flesh (Col 2:20-23)? [Note: Ever notice this is much the effect that fundamentalism/legalism/pietism has upon us?]
a) We were not born-again spiritually by blood or sheer will-power, but of God (Jn 1:13; 3:8; Titus 3:4-6; 2Tim 1:9; Rom 9:11).
b) We toil not in our own energy but in all his energy that powerfully works within us (Col 1:29).
c) We are “His workmanship”, created by Jesus’ work for good works, that, were eternally decreed as God’s will (Eph 2:10).
d) We know it is God who works in us—“both to will and to work”—and this He does for His own good pleasure and glory (Phil 2:13; 1:11).
